About/Submit

Nefarious Muse is back.

Here’s the deal: Nefarious Muse represents literature that makes you go, ‘Damn.’ Good words, regardless of genre. In fact, forget genre. If you can make us laugh or cry or scream with your words, that’s enough to get you in. We’re not picky about minimums or maximums so long as you can keep us interested all through. If you can write a damn perfect 200 word story that brings out something long since buried, groovy. If you’ve got a novella-length story that makes us hang on each and every damn word, sweet.  We can’t pay you, and frankly that’s a shame, because we know each damn word is precious, but what we can do is promote you and your work. If we’ve printed something of yours in the past and now, well, you’ve got something new, a book or something cool published elsewhere, send us a note and we’ll pimp you out. If we really, really like you, we’ll ask you to be a sort of Writer-In-Residence. That brings even more pimpage.

What it comes down to is this: can you make the reader give a damn? If so, please submit to nefariousfiction@gmail.com.  Let’s keep things simple, so submit in the body of the email.  If need be, you can include a .doc or .rtf file, but only if you’ve asked nicely beforehand. It’d probably help if you’d put something along the lines of ‘Submission’ in the Subject line.  If you care enough, add a short but interesting third-person bio in there after your story. A cover letter, too, would be nice, but no need to get formal.

Nefarious Muse makes no claims to copyrights, all rights to works presented herein remains with the authors of said works. If it goes up elsewhere, please give us a little mention.

We’ll try and get back to you soon, hopefully within a week.  Feel free to query if it’s been more than two weeks. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but for the love of all that is nice and fluffy, let us know if it’s been accepted elsewhere.  Is that hard?  Multiple submissions are frowned upon unless the stories are on the shorter-side, and even then, well, come on. Once you’ve heard back from us, kindly keep track over at Duotropes.
